Lighting System Upgrade to LED Technology Project Highlights

Scope of Work: Upgrading warehouse and exterior lighting system to LED technology.

Annual Electricity Savings (kWh/yr): 112,329
Annual Energy Cost Savings: $16,854

Average Light Levels Improvement: 33%
Annual Environmental Impact: 79.6 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalent to 8,958 gallons of gasoline consumption

The pre-existing lighting system in the warehouse was outdated and inefficient, with low light levels and poor uniformity. This case study serves as an example of the positive impact that strategic lighting design can have on warehouse operations. By incorporating the latest LED technology and intelligent lighting control strategies, businesses can achieve significant energy savings, improve worker safety and productivity, and enhance the overall operational efficiency of their warehouse facilities.

A comprehensive lighting upgrade was implemented, addressing the identified challenges:

  • LED lighting fixtures: Replacing outdated fluorescent fixtures with energy-efficient LED technology resulted in significant energy savings, reduced maintenance costs, and improved light quality.
  • High lumen output: High-lumen LED fixtures were chosen to provide the necessary light levels for various warehouse tasks, including picking, packing, and loading/unloading.
  • Uniform light distribution: Relocated lighting fixtures located above the racking aisles spacing to ensure uniform light distribution throughout the warehouse, eliminating dark spots and reducing shadows
  • Color temperature: A neutral color temperature (5000K) was selected to provide optimal visibility for workers and ensure accurate product identification.
  • Motion sensors: Motion sensors were installed on all the warehouse light fixtures to automatically turn lights on and off, further reducing energy consumption.
