An industrial facility in Illinois has taken a major step toward sustainability by installing a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The project was financed through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), allowing the customer to access clean energy at a reduced rate—without any upfront capital investment.
System Overview
- System Size & Type: 407 kW ballasted rooftop solar PV system
- Estimated Annual Generation: 467,157 kWh
- Environmental Benefits:
- Offsets approximately 412 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year
- Equivalent to eliminating the emissions from 46,331 gallons of gasoline
- Developer & EPC: General Energy Corporation
- On-Site Generation Contribution: The system now supplies 40% of the facility’s total electricity needs.
Project Goals
- Reduce long-term operating costs
- Decrease dependence on utility-supplied electricity
- Achieve stable, long-term energy savings with zero capital expenditure
